Join us for an evening of beer and remote sensing! This night will be a "choose your own adventure", where we will have a few different tutorials that you can choose to work through based on your interests.
What to expect:
All of these tutorials were written by Dr. L. Monika Moskal (http://faculty.washington.edu/lmmoskal/) and are taught in her Introduction to Remote Sensing (ESRM 430) (http://courses.washington.edu/esrm430/) class at the University of Washington. With this, each tutorial focuses on a different topic and tool used in Remote Sensing.
Our host this evening will be Caileigh Shoot, a Graduate Student in Dr. Moskal's lab and fellow organizer for Maptime. Caileigh will start out with a very brief introduction to Remote Sensing and the available tutorials, allowing the remainder of the evening for you to work on a tutorial of your choosing. We recommend you work in groups based on your chosen tutorial. All of the tutorials are easy to follow and require no prior experience.
The available tutorials are:
- Introduction to Google Earth (http://courses.washington.edu/esrm430/labs/Lab2.pdf)
- Introduction to Computer Aided Image Segmentation (http://courses.washington.edu/esrm430/labs/Lab4.pdf) (with SPRING Software (http://www.dpi.inpe.br/spring/english/))
- Introduction to LiDAR (http://courses.washington.edu/esrm430/labs/Lab8.pdf) (Note: This was taught at a past Maptime)
- Advanced LiDAR Data Analysis (http://courses.washington.edu/esrm430/labs/Lab9.pdf)(Recommended if you attended the previous maptime on LiDAR)
What to bring:
Be sure to bring your laptop and, if possible, install the necessary programs for your chosen tutorial. Please Note: SPRING and FUSION will only work on a PC.
Target Audience:
Anyone interested in Remote Sensing! Beginners encouraged!
Where to go:
This meetup will be held in the back room of Big Time Brewery (http://bigtimebrewery.com/) in University District. If you cannot find us, feel free to ask the bartender (and grab a beer while you're at it!)
